Of the many questions people ask of me, the most common is, “How did you ever get started with such an endeavor?”  I have been sewing for close to 15 years, thanks to the influence of my grandma, so it has been a significant part of my life for quite a long time.  Long before I considered pursuing handbags as a business opportunity, sewing and fashion were passions of mine.  I understood that I could not be a success unless I truly loved what I was doing.  The Distinguished Bad Lady is simply an extension of a lifelong hobby that I love and I am thrilled to be able to share it with you!

This adventure began a few years back while I was living in a tiny apartment, with barely enough room to “live”, yet alone start a business.  I would often make myself a handbag for occasions such as weddings, the holidays, or simply a night out.  Women would frequently stop me and comment on “how cute that handbag is” and “where can I buy one?”

Shortly after I started creating handbags for myself, a good friend had the idea to host a “handbag party” at her home.  We sent out some invitations, served hors d’oeuvres and wine, and, of course, presented my handbags.  The party was a success and everyone had a great time!  I almost instantly decided to move forward with The Distinguished Bag Lady and this website was born.

Today, I have all the room I need!  We have converted our home’s basement into a sewing “workshop”, and most nights I can be found downstairs hard at work!  I would not have been able to do this all by myself.  Not only have I employed a couple of seamstresses to help meet demand, but my husband even lends a hand.

Since starting The Distinguished Bad Lady, my life has been very eventful and exciting.  I am so happy to have been given this fun opportunity.  I also maintain a full time career, and my husband and I are expecting our first child in 2010.

The Distinguished Bag Lady handbags are not only available through this website, but I can also be booked for home parties, and you can find my handbags at various boutiques.

I take pride and pleasure in the attention to detail that goes into every handbag I hand craft.  I truly hope you enjoy your handbag as much as I enjoy creating it!
